Who is this…Waymond

I am a husband and dad. I like drinking coffee, gardening, Nacho Libre, and Ethiopian food. Since 2009, I've been creating thoughtful, story-based graphic design in the beautifully gritty city of Tacoma, WA.

I’ve loved art and design from an early age, but it wasn’t until 2006 that I had the opportunity to pursue it as a career by learning from some amazing creative professionals at the School of Visual Concepts in Seattle. Since then, I have gained skills, friends, and stories, and have made and directed the making of loads of beautiful things.

Delving into a career in design has changed the course of my life in rich and meaningful ways. I’ve learned that there is great purpose found in using design for good. From re-creating new governmental brands like ArtsWA to creating a friendly image for a law firm at Helland Law Group, my career has proven to be a mix of fun, challenge, and reward.

The ten years I spent at Hemisphere Design & Marketing, a small design shop in Tacoma, allowed me to learn what it takes to work with international brands like Microsoft, SAP, and Amazon. As a small 2-3 person shop, we worked as a unit to create award-winning brands, like TAPCO Credit Union. We made our city better by creating striking collateral and environmental graphics for Tacoma Public Schools. We also made a difference in the world by crafting the MicroFlicks microfinance campaign for World Vision. I learned much and accomplished much at Hemisphere, and in addition to branding, web, and collateral design, I was also the main project manager.

In 2019, I was invited to join the team at New Community Church of Tacoma (NCC) as the Communications Director. It was a true joy to work closely with friends and to serve a growing church community. For almost seven years I had to privilege of building and honing a brand I initially created back in 2006. The seven years at NCC were full, and included the oversight and direction of a complete interior redesign of the church’s facilities. I learned many skills in real-time as our small staff led through the pandemic - things like creating an online community around a weekly video that was directed, recorded, and produced in-house and included both engaging “live” music sets and a 20-30 minute fully edited teaching. My years on staff at NCC allowed me to build a diverse set of skills that culminated a yearly self-led immersive, full-sensory Good Friday experience that included music, visual and tactile elements, and custom-illustrated booklets. I greatly appreciate the opportunity I had to learn and to lean into new design challenges alongside good friends and colleagues at NCC.

In November of 2025 a new adventure began as I took all of my experiences and applied them with the team at Rotator Creative. As my time with the Rotator teams moves forward, I’m excited to see what awaits in the years to come!

All the best,
-Waymond
